6:00 pm: Supporting Family-led Development Monitoring. Learn the Signs. Act Early: Provider Training

New legislation (HB202) will require that all childcare centers engage in developmental screening using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). The LTSAE training, Supporting Family-Led Developmental Monitoring, will help prepare you for this important change that is coming to Delaware.

This training will:

  • introduce participants to the importance of developmental monitoring;
  • provide an overview of the state’s developmental screener – the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ);
  • explain the state’s process for referring children to early intervention services; and
  • describe the types of early intervention services available to different ages of children.

11:00 am: Autism And Mental Health

The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of professionals.

The Autism and Mental Health training is intended for those who have attended Introduction to Autism and Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices or have similar foundational knowledge. This training is designed for all community members. This may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.

The Autism and Mental Health training will provide participants with a review of the core characteristics of autism and introduce the importance of neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care. Participants will learn how core characteristics of autism increase one's susceptibility to mental health disorders and the prevalence and presentation of commonly occurring mental health conditions in autistic individuals. The training strives to raise awareness about mental health challenges experienced by this population and provide Delaware-specific mental health resources. 

Participants will be emailed log-in information and details approximately 48 hours before the training date. Participants will be emailed a certificate of attendance approximately two weeks post-training.

This course, Autism and Mental Health, Approval #02302023-1, provided by the DNEA is approved for continuing education by the NASW-DE Continuing Education Approval Collaborative.  CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: Thursday, March 30, 2023 through January 31, 2024.  Delaware social workers will receive 2 General CE credits for participating in this course

Seating is reserved for Delaware residents and Delaware professionals. The DNEA reserves the right to cancel training if the minimum threshold for attendance is not reached.

11:00 am: Autism and Epilepsy: Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification

The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware (EFDE) is a private, non-profit service organization providing public education and supportive services to individuals and families affected by epilepsy/seizure disorders. The EFDE works to deliver nationally recognized educational programs and referral services to residents in all three counties throughout Delaware.

Together, these two organizations are offering training in Autism and Epilepsy: Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification. This course will review the core characteristics of autism and the co-occurrence of autism and epilepsy. Participants who successfully complete the post-knowledge assessment in the Epilepsy Foundation Learning Portal will receive a two-year certification in Seizure Recognition and First Aid.

After registration, participants will be emailed:

  • a Zoom link; and
  • a link to the Epilepsy Foundation Learning Portal to take the pretest (required if applying for certification).
