The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism offers support and resources to medical providers serving individuals with autism. We are excited to announce that we will be supporting providers in integrating Communicating Visually in Pediatrics visual communication book from the American Academy of Pediatrics into their practices. Communicating Visually in Pediatrics is designed to help children with communication access needs and children who do not speak English understand common medical procedures. It is captioned in both Spanish and English and describes procedures step-by-step using pictures and plain language text.

To apply for a free copy of Communicating Visually in Pediatrics, you must work in Delaware in a medical setting. Communicating Visually in Pediatrics will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to all qualifying applicants while supplies last. A DNEA resource explaining best practices for using the book is included.

Medical providers and offices are encouraged to contact the DNEA for additional training on using visual supports – including Communicating Visually in Pediatrics – and other evidence-based practices in medical settings. Use this form to request a DNEA training or a free copy of Communicating Visually in Pediatrics.
