The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism offers support and resources to medical providers serving individuals with autism. We are excited to announce that we will be supporting providers in integrating the newly-published Communicating Visually in Pediatrics visual communication book from the American Academy of Pediatrics into their practices. Communicating Visually in Pediatrics is designed to help children with complex communication needs and children who do not speak English understand common medical procedures. It is captioned in both Spanish and English and describes procedures step-by-step using pictures and plain language text.
To apply for a free copy of Communicating Visually in Pediatrics, you must work in Delaware in a medical setting. Communicating Visually in Pediatrics will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to all qualifying applicants while supplies last. Each recipient will be given a Communicating Visually in Pediatrics book and DNEA resources explaining best practices for using the book. Please allow up to 3 weeks for DNEA to review your application and deliver your materials.
Medical providers and offices are encouraged to contact the DNEA for additional training on using visual supports – including Communicating Visually in Pediatrics – and other evidence-based practices in medical settings.
