28May 28, 2025●(1 event) 11:00 am: Mental Health Professionals Working with Autistic Individuals – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of professionals. Mental Health Professionals Working with Autistic Individuals is intended for mental health professionals who are committed to creating a more inclusive and affirming mental health landscape for autistic people. The training focuses on delivering sensitive, non-judgmental care during mental health evaluation and treatment. Using a neurodiversity-affirming lens, it begins with a review of the core characteristics of autism, discussing how autism increases one's susceptibility to experiencing mental health disorders and progresses into ways to modify mental health treatment to support autistic people best. Mental Health Professionals Working with Autistic Individuals is intended for those who have attended the Autism and Mental Health training or have similar foundational knowledge. Although open to anyone who would like to attend, this training is designed for mental health professionals interested in enhancing their expertise in working with autistic individuals. This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals. Participants will need to complete zoom registration to log-in to the training. Participants will be emailed log-in information and details approximately 48 hours before the training date. Please check the email you used to register and/or your JUNK mail if you do not find the confirmation in your inbox. Participants will be emailed a certificate of attendance approximately two weeks post-training. “This course, Mental Health Professionals Working with Autistic Individuals, Approval #20250310-1, provided by Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism is approved for continuing education by the NASW-DE Continuing Education Approval Collaborative. CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: March 10, 2025 through January 31, 2026. Delaware social workers will receive 2 CE credits for participating in this course.” Seating is reserved for Delaware residents and Delaware professionals. The training is designed to develop an understanding of autism and how it impacts children differently. 11June 11, 2025●(1 event) 11:00 am: Planning the Perfect Summer: Supporting Your Child During New Activities and Special Events – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of settings. While the summer can be fun and exciting, it can also be difficult for youth with autism, and other developmental or intellectual disabilities. This workshop, presented to you by the DNEA, will review why the summer and its special events can be particularly challenging for children with disabilities and their families or caregivers. We also present strategies that can assist in preparing for special or new events while reducing stress and challenging behaviors. This training is being held at the Route 9 Library, 3022 New Castle Ave, New Castle, DE 19720. This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals. Join the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA) for a one-hour training to learn about plain language and basic tips you can use to make your writing more accessible. 26June 26, 2025●(1 event) 11:00 am: Autism and Epilepsy: Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. The Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware (EFDE) is a private, non-profit service organization providing public education and supportive services to individuals and families affected by epilepsy/seizure disorders. The EFDE works to deliver nationally recognized educational programs and referral services to residents in all three counties throughout Delaware. Together, these two organizations are offering training in Autism and Epilepsy: Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification. This course will review the core characteristics of autism and the co-occurrence of autism and epilepsy. Participants who successfully complete the post-knowledge assessment in the Epilepsy Foundation Learning Portal will receive a two-year certification in Seizure Recognition and First Aid.
