October 31, 2024(1 event) 9:00 am: Crisis Intervention - Supporting a Person with IDD in Crisis – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of professionals. Crisis Intervention - Supporting a Person with IDD in Crisis is intended for professionals working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who want to learn more about mental health crisis intervention for that population. The training focuses on how to identify a mental health crisis in someone with IDD, how to intervene during a mental health crisis in someone with IDD, and how to reduce the likelihood of future mental health crises in people with IDD from developing. Using a trauma-informed lens, it begins by overviewing IDD and providing context for mental health crises, then progresses into crisis intervention and contacting services. The training closes with tips for preventing future mental health crises, as well as mental health crisis resources for people with IDD. This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals. Seating is reserved for Delaware residents and Delaware professionals. The DNEA reserves the right to cancel training if the minimum threshold for attendance is not reached.
