Training Descriptions for School Professionals

Understanding Autism and Classroom Strategies

This training will provide an overview of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and basic strategies such as prompting, reinforcement, and visual supports. Learners will understand the steps in implementing these supports and the effects it has for students with ASD.

Classroom Management

This training is designed to assist educators in understanding the needs of students with autism and will provide the basics on designing a classroom environment with predictable routines and schedules. Educators will learn about establishing expectations as well as preventative strategies for challenging classroom behaviors.

Success with Social Skills

This training is designed to teach how the core characteristics of autism impact social success, explaining typical social development and how it differs in children with autism. It also covers how to implement the evidence-based practices of video modeling, social narratives and peer mediated instruction and intervention.

Navigating the Teacher and Para- Educator Relationship

This training promotes teaming and focuses on fostering, maintaining, and nurturing positive teacher and paraeducator relationships in the classroom. This relationship is crucial for creating a positive classroom environment for both students and staff. Discussions include building this relationship by learning about work styles, expectations, roles, responsibilities, and how to have difficult conversations.

Introduction to the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Supporting Students with Autism

Participants will be introduced to autism spectrum disorder, its characteristics, and the learning needs of students identified as having autism.  The training is designed to provide a foundational understanding of applied behavior analysis, reinforcement, and learning in preparation for more advanced trainings, including Evidence-based Instructional Strategies for Autism.

Data Collection

This training will provide instruction on how to collect data and effectively use data when working with students with autism. Participants will learn how to implement three methods of data collection (frequency, duration, and time sampling) to inform goals and aid in educational decision-making.

Evidence-based Instructional Strategies for Autism: Least to Most Prompting, Most to Least Prompting, and Graduated Guidance

Participants will be introduced to the basics of instructional prompting and trained in three specific evidence-based strategies for supporting the learning of individuals with autism: least to most prompting, most to least prompting, and graduated guidance. Data collection procedures for these strategies will be introduced. Introduction to the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Supporting Students with Autism is a prerequisite for this training.

Evidence-based Instructional Strategies for Autism: Simultaneous Prompting and Time Delay

Participants will be introduced to the basics of instructional prompting and trained in three specific evidence-based strategies for supporting the learning of individuals with autism: simultaneous prompting, constant time delay, and progressive time delay. Data collection procedures for these strategies will be introduced. Introduction to the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Supporting Students with Autism is a prerequisite for this training.
